Are there any solutions for browsing/searching/deleting VPP files and folders except for the built-in File Manager in EPiServer?

Source code is fine.

There's an article + code sample on World on how to create a custom file manager for EPiServer 6:

There's also module for hooking up Dropbox as a VPP source (which would allow you to manage files in your Windows Explorer):
