Custom content provider - active folder in edit mode

Hi,
We are facing an issue where our custom content provider doesn't mark the current folder as active in the asset pane, after an item is opened for editing. Instead the root folder is marked as active.
Once we create content items from the provider items, the correct parent link is set.
Does anyone else have experienced this issue?
