Expired content accessible?

Expired content accessible?

I have marked a page for expiration, and it's not shown in the navigation. But it still accessble through the url, ie www.mydomain.com/mypage. I thought that expired pages weren't viewable for visitiors. Is it supposed to be like this or is it perhaps a configuration setting?
